My name is Kim and I’m 44 years old. I have been living with depression/anxiety for almost 30 years.
When I was 15, I was diagnosed with depression. My parents were divorced and I wasn’t getting the attention I so badly desired from my dad. One night after a fight with my dad, I decided to take my own life. I’m so grateful my life was saved. I have battled depression/anxiety since then. My daughter also tried to take her life December 31, 2017. Her life was saved as well. I felt responsible for her attempt because it was in the genes.
My bouts of depression/anxiety were up and down for all of these years until I hit rock bottom last year. I’m thankful mostly for the PHP at Swedish American Hospital for really helping me with the recovery process as well as the NAMI Support Group. My friends, family, coworkers and bosses were all very supportive.
Never give up, there is always hope. As someone who felt I would never recover, I am believer in HOPE. Know you’re not alone and never feel ashamed. Fight for your life.
