October 4-10, 2020: Mental Illness Awareness Week

Mental illness impacts everyone directly or indirectly. Unfortunately, stigma and misunderstanding are also widespread. That is why each year, during the first week of October, NAMI Northern Illinois and participants across the country raise awareness of mental illness.

This year, NAMI Northern Illinois will be focused on the fact that mental health care is essential! Join us virtually in learning what makes our community of support so important this week. We cannot create a better mental health care system without YOU!

OCT 4: WELCOME TO MENTAL ILLNESS AWARENESS WEEK
Participate with us by sharing how mental illness touches your life on your social media pages and tag @naminorthernillinois. Watch for stories we share. And make sure to change your Facebook profile picture to the #mentalhealthcareisessential frame.

OCT 5: ALTERNATIVE THERAPY, MUSIC & DANCE | 7PM
Learn how Vic Rivera uses dance to stay healthy mentally and physically.

OCT 6: ALT YOGA, LET IT OUT! | 7PM
Experience how Marissa Ebert found yoga at a time she was in need and has adapted it for all.

OCT 7: ALTERNATIVE THERAPY, EXPRESSIVE ARTS | 7PM
Listen in on how Pablo Korona started painting and why it is highly therapeutic.

OCT 8: SOCIAL SERVICES SPEED DATING | 7PM
Get the rundown on local organizations and you will find why each service is important to our area.

OCT 9: RALLY FOR MENTAL HEALTH | 12PM
Promote mental illness awareness with us NAMI Northern Illinois alongside many others as we close the week. Catch who won the Making a Difference Awards. You don’t want to miss it!
